Position: Summer Collections Intern
Location: Washakie Museum & Cultural Center, Worland, Wyoming (non-remote)
Duration: 8-weeks
Hours: Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Washakie Museum Summer Collections Intern assists the Curator with collections management of archival materials including, cataloguing and accessioning items, storing and organizing items by collection, and creating and updating Past Perfect and paper records. The Summer Collections Intern will be working with archival materials including written documents, booklets, pamphlets, photographs, photographic negatives, and slides. The position requires an exceptional attention to detail, a basic understanding of cataloging and accessioning procedures, a willingness to learn how to handle historic papers, photographs, negatives, and slides, good organizational skills, and enthusiasm for working in a museum setting. The ideal candidate will also have opportunities to participate in other museum programs during their internship.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist in maintaining and updating collections records (both paper and electronic) for various archival items;
- Assist in creating collections records (both paper and electronic) for various archival items;
- Assist in cataloguing and accessioning archival materials;
- Assist in organizing old paper collections records as needed;
- Assist in storing and rehousing photographs and other archival materials;
- Assist in organizing old donor paperwork as needed
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Currently enrolled or recently graduated from a college or university program in Museum Studies, History, Art History, Archaeology or other closely related field;
- Computer proficiency and familiarity with Past Perfect or other collection management database;
- Basic knowledge of museum procedures;
- Self-motivated with a strong work ethic;
- Ability to organize and prioritize duties;
- Ability to work independently, under supervision by the Curator;
- Ability to transport yourself to and from the Washakie Museum daily
PREFERRED SKILLS (NOT REQUIRED):
- Basic understanding of, or experience with, handling archival materials;
- Basic understanding of, or experience with, cataloguing and accessioning procedures;
- Experience reconciling disparities between physical and electronic catalogue records
INTERNSHIP DETAILS:
- Intern can choose from one of two 8-week periods to work: either June 3-July 26, 2024 or July 1- August 23, 2024);
- Intern must have the ability to commit to 40hrs a week;
- Intern must have the ability to commit to a full 8-week long internship;
- Intern will be provided housing in Worland, within easy commute of the museum;
- Intern will be compensated at a rate of $15 per hour
