Polly Burge’s goal as an artist is to understand technical principles of realism that aid her freedom to render and interpret what she sees in interesting ways. “The biggest joy I find in art is how it connects me with others.”

She is a plein air and studio painter of mostly Western scenes and landscapes. She has spent a lot of time in the outdoors throughout her life: from the county roads outside of town on the back of her horse, and from the trail with her dog, Tiller. Living in Sheridan, Wyoming, has allowed her access to the Big Horn Mountains, a window to nature and the “big country” of the West. Polly is also a portrait artist of dogs, horses, and wildlife of northern Wyoming. She almost always carried a camera or sketchbook, and now, after years of practicing in pencil, charcoal, and other dry medias, she has dedicated the last couple of years to studying watercolor.
