The Columbian mammoth bronze, a gift of the Newell B. Sargent Foundation, is ready to be sited to its place of honor!  The 6,000 lb., 25 foot tall bronze is the work of artist Chris Navarro.  The Dedication Ceremony will include honored guests Wyoming Governor Dave Freudenthal, Sculptor Chris Navarro, Kent A. Richins of the Newell B. Sargent Foundation, and Martha Lawley, President of the Board of Directors of the Washakie Museum and Cultural Center.  Immediately following the ceremony, a reception including hors d' oeuvres and beverages will be held in the Museum's Event Center.  Free admission for Museum Members and $10 for non-members.

Artist Chris Navarro has been sculpting professionally since 1986, and is well known for his large monumental sculptures.  Over 20 of his bronze monuments are located throughout the country, and he is represented in ten galleries across the United States.

The life-size bronze mammoth, chosen as the iconic symbol for the Museum, will be placed at the entrance of the new Washakie Museum and Cultural Center property which opened in May 2010. Museum exhibits boast a life-size diorama of the Colby Mammoth Kill Site event in the Archaeology Gallery.
