The 2011-2012 History Discussion Group:

This year’s discussion group, Struggle for the Grass, will explore the uncivil times of conflict and violence which emerged in Wyoming as Cattle Kings, farmers, flock masters and rustlers fought for land and power.  The discussion will take participants from the rough and ready frontier environment to a full-fledged state government, governed by the rule of law.  Ethics and legal issues surrounding this conflict will be discussed.  Discussion will also touch on the fate of the native peoples that had lived in the Big Horn Basin for thousands of years and the effect the population growth of native and non-native settlers had on the Basin’s fragile ecosystem. The cost for the discussion group is $50 for museum members and $55 for non-members. The cost includes a book and other reference materials.

Each year, the Washakie Museum hosts a History Discussion Group which focuses on a Wyoming history topic.  In the past, discussion topics have ranged from Indian Wars to Pioneer Trails and include dialogue covering a variety of historical subjects such as culture, economy, politics and lifestyles.
